Macro Photos of a Black Widow Spider, Green Anole Lizard, Pipevine Swallowtail Caterpillar.
One of my favorite things to photograph is small insects. I love to capture things that most people will never get close enough to really enjoy. My gear consist of a Canon Mark 5d II camera body an MP-E 65 mm 2.8 1x-5x lens and the Canon MT24-ex twin flash unit. I hand hold this setup as you would never be able to use a tripod on insects that constantly move around. All of these photos were taken in Fredericksburg Texas.
I chose the MT24-EX twin flash unit over the ring flash because of several factors. I like how you can change the angle as well as the position of each flash head. The ring flash is not adjustable and often times can leave reflective circles in the eyes of some insects. My favorite thing to photograph was the black widow. I have a passion for pictures of these deadly creatures. Doing macro photography almost certainly requires a flash. Without a flash, pictures closer than 1x are nearly impossible to shoot without being blurry. Remember if you do any macro photography to always be careful with insects and plants you are not familiar with. Many of them can be dangerous.
